Anthropology of things and semiotics of traditional culture: querns

Abstract:
The article is an attempt to capture the changes in valuation and meanings of querns - an everyday objects. In changing cultural contexts, they took on new meanings, lost their original status and symbolic value changed. It is a kind of an attempt at the biography of typologically identical objects captured in the perspective of various research methods and scientific disciplines. The main emphasis was placed on the volatility of their symbolic rather than economic values.
