Abstract:
The article discusses the life and activity of the Polish prisoner of war of the World WarI Przeclaw Smolik in Transbaikalia region in 1915-1918. The author of the article specified some aspects of Przeclaw Smolik's stay in the prisoner of war camp in Verkhneudinsk during the indicated period. The author on the basis of archival documents of the State Archive of the Republic of Buryatia (Ulan-Ude), literary works and memoirs of Przeclaw Smolik reconstructs the Transbaikal period of his life. The article reveals the conditions of Przeclaw Smolik's stay in the prisoner of war camp, as well as his work as a doctor of the Red Cross infirmary in Verkhneudinsk. The article also gives a description of the main religious holidays of Buddhism, which was witnessed by Przeclaw Smolik – the Tsam mistery-play and the celebration of the Eastern New Year (Sagaan hara). The result of the study is the concretization of some facts of the life of Przeclaw Smolik in Transbaikalia region during the period under review, which allows us to more fully represent the conditions of his life in Verkhneudinsk. As a result of the study, specific dates for the service of Przeclaw Smolik as a doctor of the Red Cross infirmary were identified.
