Granica – różnica kulturowa – tożsamość: przestrzeń lubelskiej dzielnicy żydowskiej we wspomnieniach przedwojennych mieszkańców

Abstrakt:
Przez kilkaset lat Lublin rozwijał się jako wieloetniczne i wielowyznaniowe miasto, w którym znaczącą rolę – obok innych mniejszości – odgrywali Żydzi. Co najmniej od XVI wieku zamieszkiwali oni w odrębnej dzielnicy na Podzamczu, zaś po 1862 roku, także na Starym mieście oraz w innych dzielnicach Lublina. Choć w okresie międzywojennym Żydzi mieszkali na terenie całego miasta, dawne granice pomiędzy „żydowską” i „chrześcijańską” częścią pozostawały ważnym elementem dziedzictwa i miały wpływ na życie mieszkańców i pozostawały silnie obecne w społecznej i kulturowej pamięci. W artykule zaprezentowane zostaną wyniki analiz dotyczących wyobrażonych granic wyodrębniających dzielnicę żydowską w przestrzeni międzywojennego Lublina. Materiał badawczy tworzą współcześnie zarejestrowane relacje dawnych mieszkańców. Puntem wyjścia do badania sposobów sytuowania i opisywania symbolicznych miejsc oraz linii granicznych było przyjęcie założenia, że odzwierciedlający się we wspomnieniach obraz dzielnicy żydowskiej jako przestrzeni kulturowo wyodrębnionej, stanowi część szerszego dyskursu związanego z przeszłością miasta, poprzez analizowanie którego można odnosić się do kwestii dotyczących etnicznej i wyznaniowej złożoności przedwojennego Lublina. Teoretyczne tło dla prowadzonych rozważań tworzą prace podejmujące problematykę granic i pograniczności oraz zagadnienia związane z konstruowaniem i funkcjonowaniem wyobrażeń o miejscach wielokulturowych.
